Stork Home BANJARA HILLS
DR EVITA’s ZEAL AND DETERMINATION to provide premium maternity services to the discerning clientele of the twin cities brought about the establishment in June 2016 of the new hospital at Road No. 12 – aptly named STORK HOME. Truly, the pioneering Stork Home Clinic has come full circle after nearly seven decades, combining the roots and values of its original set-up with the high- end services it now provides. The doctor-patient bond still thrives and so does the Stork’s good auspices. A safe and reliable haven for mothers-to-be, Stork Home at Banjara Hills will ensure that pregnant women enjoy a wonderful and memorable birthing experience.
Humble Beginnings
FERNANDEZ HOSPITAL began as a small maternity clinic in 1948, systematically progressing into a full-fledged women's hospital. With a reputation built over seven decades, the Hospital presently comprises six strategic locations in Hyderabad – all focusing on efficient, reliable, and personalized healthcare to women and new-born. Our Bogulkunta and Hyderguda facilities are both NABH accredited and between them handle nearly 9000 deliveries a year.
We have dedicated teams of obstetricians, midwives, physicians, neonatologists, gynaecologists, and anaesthesiologists to handle the comprehensive in-house facilities. Together with specialists in other disciplines like nephrology, endocrinology, cardiology, etc, the teams provide complete healthcare under one roof.

The Founders
DR LOURDES C FERNANDEZ
Dr Lourdes started her medical career at Niloufer Hospital. Later she obtained her diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Dublin, Ireland. Shortly after marriage, Dr Lourdes received a second proposal from her husband Dr Leslie – a business one this time – to start a small clinic. The birth of Stork Home was a time filled with anticipation for Dr Lourdes, especially being a new mother herself. She was encouraged by the moral and financial support of her family. Together with her husband she took the plunge, and the rest is history.
IN JUNE, 1948, A YOUNG COUPLE, LESLIE AND LOURDES FERNANDEZ STARTED A CLINIC WITH TWO BEDS.
DR LESLIE J FERNANDEZ
A physician by profession, Dr Leslie had many more facets to his personality. He was firstly a humane doctor whose patients knew they were always in caring hands. They fondly called him "Baba". Besides being an able administrator, he was also a keen social worker. He was a prolific and talented painter and brought to his viewers the many beautiful locales from his travels around the world. Last, but not least, Dr Leslie was a true philanthropist, whose generosity, and unsparing efforts in the cause of cancer care are well known and admired.

OUR LEADERSHIP
DR EVITA FERNANDEZ, FRCOG
CHAIRPERSON & MANAGING DIRECTOR | FERNANDEZ FOUNDATION
Dr Evita Fernandez took charge of Fernandez Hospital from the Founders, her parents, in 1985. Under her leadership, the Hospital has grown from one 40-bed unit to three hospitals with a 320-bed capacity, two outpatient clinics and a School of Nursing. With a focus on maternal and child care, the institution has expanded into healthcare for specially-abled children, medical education and research, and advocacy.
In 2018, the Fernandez institutions were registered as not-for-profit entities under the newly established Fernandez Foundation. With this transformation, Dr Evita cemented her commitment to ethical, equitable healthcare for all.
Dr Evita is a passionate advocate of normal birthing and is vocal about de-medicalising pregnancy and birthing. She values transparency and believes in empowering women with the right information to make choices regarding their bodies and childbirth. She is committed to making birthing a respectful and blissful experience for every woman, irrespective of their background.
With this mission in mind, she brought midwifery to the private hospital sector in India. She strongly advocates midwifery, a practice that exemplifies every belief she holds. She seeks to increase access to high-quality maternal care for more women through midwifery and reduce unnecessary interventions such as caesareans.
She started the two-year in-house Professional Midwifery Education and Training (PMET) Program in August 2011. With this, she initiated the entry of more midwives into the healthcare ecosystem. In 2017, Fernandez Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Telangana and UNICEF, launched an 18-month certification program in midwifery for nurses from the state’s healthcare system. Designed to global standards set by the International Confederation of Midwives, the course was a first of its kind in Telangana. Dr Evita is a prolific speaker. In addition to presenting numerous scientific papers at national and international conferences, she has contributed to textbook chapters. She is also the recipient of several awards. Dr Evita holds an MBBS degree from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore and a DGO from Osmania University. She received her membership to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, in 1983 and was conferred a Fellowship in 2001. She is the Chairperson and Managing Director of Fernandez Foundation and the Managing Trustee of the Dr Leslie J Fernandez Memorial Charitable Trust and the Fernandez Hospital Educational and Research Foundation.
